The “Displacement” exhibition, exposing the realities of settler colonialism and forced displacement in Palestine, opened on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg. The event is a joint initiative between the Yasser Arafat Foundation, the Nelson Mandela Foundation, and the Iziko Museum, bringing Palestine’s story of struggle and resilience to the global stage.
The opening was attended by Palestinian Ambassador to South Africa Dr. Hanan Jarrar, UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese, and a number of diplomats, activists, and cultural figures. In her address, Albanese shared her firsthand experiences documenting life under occupation, emphasizing the world’s moral duty to end the ongoing injustice against the Palestinian people.
The exhibition presents a striking collection of photographs, documents, films, and artworks that lay bare the human cost of displacement and the threats facing Palestinian identity and existence. It reflects the Yasser Arafat Foundation’s mission to preserve and project the Palestinian national narrative across borders.
“Displacement” is the third stop of the exhibition’s journey, first launched in 2023 at the Yasser Arafat Museum in Palestine, and later displayed in 2024 at Cape Town’s Bo-Kaap Museum.
